O’Hara had the procedure to ensure his foot heals properly after a Lisfranc sprain, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, and when the foot heals, he will have surgery to remove a bone chip from his left ankle that has been affecting his Achilles tendon.
O’Hara missed 10 games and per the report the hope is he will be ready for minicamp in June. If the procedure is similar to what Chicago Bears center Olin Kreutz underwent last January, that could be optimistic. Kreutz had issues with an Achilles tendon related to a bone spur and he was basically sidelined until training camp.
O’Hara turns 34 in the summer and his future with the team remains up in the air. Obviously, a new collective bargaining agreement has to be hammered out before any major decisions will be made anywhere.
