Vikings optimistic about Favre playing
Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, only three consecutive regular-season starts from 300, has a shoulder injury. But the team is hopeful that Favre will play against the Giants on Sunday.
“He probably won’t practice tomorrow, but we’ll get a chance to see how he looks on Thursday and just try to make a determination based on that, you know, how things will look for Sunday,” coach Leslie Frazier said in a Tuesday radio interview, via ESPN.com. “But we’re all hoping that he’ll be healthy enough to play.”
Actually, the feeling probably isn’t universal. Tarvaris Jackson, who’ll be an unrestricted free agent in 2011, probably would prefer a chance to make a strong closing argument before hitting the market. But even Jackson realizes that Favre will likely find a way to play.
“He’s played 15,000 straight games now,” Jackson said after Sunday’s 38-14 win over the Bills. “So, probably 15,001 next week.”
Jackson probably is right. And Favre probably will say something during his weekly press conference that makes clear his intention to take the field, at least for the first offensive snap.
