We noted on Sunday that the 49ers’ big win over the Rams came with a price, as left tackle Joe Staley suffered a broken leg. It’s not clear exactly when in the game he suffered the injury, but Staley says he kept playing even after it happened.
When Staley first felt pain in his left leg he went to the locker room for X-rays, but when the X-rays were negative he went back in the game. He then hurt the leg again when he went back out there, but he still kept playing a couple more plays before he simply couldn’t stand on the broken left fibula — which has now been confirmed by X-rays.
“The X-rays were negative, so I went back out there,” Staley said. “Then I got kicked again, and I knew it was broken, but I stayed in for a couple plays.”
The San Francisco Chronicle reports it will be at least four weeks before Staley can come back.
