Everybody knows that punting for the Colts may be the easiest job in sports. You can probably go out partying and get away with it on the football field, but the cops still might arrest you if you are swimming in canals at 4 a.m.
Colts punter Pat McAfee was arrested Tuesday morning for public intoxication after a 4:45 a.m. 911 call from a woman claiming a wet, shirtless man was trying to get into her car, IndyStar.com reports.
McAfee had allegedly been taking a dip in the Central Canal, and had lost his shirt in the water.
The former WVU punter said he "wasn't sure" if he had been in the canal or not, but that he knew "it was raining."
When asked how much he had to drink, McAfee responded, "a lot, because I'm drunk."
McAfee just wanted to go home when the cops found him, but there weren't any cabs at the time. "I know I am drunk but does that mean I cannot walk home?" he asked the authorities.
The officers took the punter who had blown a 0.15 BAC in a breathalyzer to the Adult Processing Center, though he never mentioned that he was on the Colts.
"They took him in mostly for his own safety," the police spokesman said. "He was cooperative but cold. It was 43 degrees or something like that."
Bill Polian released the following statement: "We are aware that Pat McAfee was arrested this morning and charged with public intoxication. We are in the process of gathering the relevant facts. When that task is complete, we will deal immediately with the issue of club discipline. Until we complete that process, we will have no further comment."
