Jake Delhomme has a high ankle sprain
Browns coach Eric Mangini was publicly "optimistic" about Jake Delhomme's status on Wednesday, but Mangini was probably just trying to make the Ravens prepare for two quarterbacks.
Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer confirmed Thursday that Delhomme has the dreaded high ankle sprain. While Grossi's article doesn't declare Delhomme out this week just yet, he notes that Delhomme missed practice again Thursday and the recovery time for a high ankle sprain is a minimum of two weeks usually.
The Plain-Dealer header for their Delhomme article says the quarterback could be back as "soon as next week" so it looks like the Ravens will get Seneca Wallace on Sunday. Wallace threw 31 times last week against the Chiefs for 229 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Browns need a win on the road to avoid a deeply disappointing 0-3 start to the year.
The Browns were also without running back Jerome Harrison and defensive tackle Shaun Rogers at practice Thursday. Rogers has routinely only practiced on Fridays.
