Everyone knows that the talent is there with Kenny Britt. The fans know it, the media knows it, the coaches know it. Even Justin Gage and Nate Washington know it. And that is what makes his failure to take hold of a significant role so interesting.
When Gage missed five games last season due to injury, Britt had three touchdown catches and posted a 100-yard game. But as soon as Gage got healthy, Britt went back to his No. 3/rotational role. In April, coach Jeff Fisher ripped Britt for sporadic attendance at offseason training, not allowing him to work out until he got in football shape. A minor knee injury and more inconsistency marred the rest of the offseason, as Britt earned the nick man “Question Mark.”
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Britt is running with the second team so far at camp.
“The biggest thing for Kenny is the consistency,'' offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger told the Tennessean. "There just has to be more consistency to what he does. He can't be on for one play and make something spectacular happen, and then off for four plays. He's got to work on the consistency and that's not happening yet.''
Britt is still just 21. He’s not going to be handed a starting gig over a pair of professional veterans without earning it. So the question is, when will he earn it? Considering the massive talent edge Britt has on Gage and Washington, look for it to click sooner rather than later.
Britt’s current ADP is 108.46 A lot of owners will be scared off by this second-team news and I’d suspect that ADP will fall to the 120s soon. Scoop up that value and wait for cream to rise
