NFC East Report: Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles

Nick Cole’s transition to center isn’t going well. He’s just another question mark for a line that continues to battle injuries and personnel rotations, especially in the middle. Some awkward snaps during a scrimmage led to Cole and QB Kevin Kolb spending extra time on the sideline, working on the exchange. Cole is considered the front-runner to start if veteran Jamaal Jackson(knee) isn’t ready by the opener. Cole, who started 15 games at left and right guard last season, struggled in Jackson’s spot for the last two games and in the team’s playoff loss to Dallas. At 6 feet, he¹s one of the NFL’s shortest offensive linemen and isn’t a natural center. Expect the team to look closely at Mike McGlynn, who practices with the reserves at guard and center. A.Q. Shipley and Dallas Reynolds are dark-horse candidates. The club signed Shipley, a natural center, off the Steelers’ practice squad, but he recently suffered a high ankle sprain and isn’t expected back soon.
