Because the latest twist in the Albert Haynesworth saga is oh so delicious.
The Washington Redskins defensive tackle is not going to try his conditioning test this morning, meaning he’ll miss the 14th practice of training camp, but Haynesworth is anxious to get on the field with his teammates. That’s because he’s apparently bought into the scheme that drove him away this offseason.
Here is how Jason Reid of the Washington Post put it: Haynesworth “actually likes the new defense and (Jim) Haslett's plans for him in the scheme.”
Reid has been on top of this situation from the get-go, so we imagine his information is well sourced. Is Haynesworth trying to save face and put a spin on the situation? Perhaps. But if he does want to get to work with his teammates and he has bought into the scheme, it just might work out so long as his achy knee doesn’t keep him sidelined indefinitely.
Nothing is going to happen until he can pass the conditioning test. He’s tried it twice and we’re now in Day 9 of the Albert Watch. Once he takes care of that, he should pick things up quickly because he has been doing individual work after practice with coaches. So stay tuned. Hopefully soon we won’t have to report on these conditioning tests. It would be nice to write about Haynesworth and actual football.
