Chiefs Place QB Matt Cassel On IR

The Kansas City Chiefs have placed quarterback Matt Cassel on injured reserve, Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston reports.

Cassel suffered a broken right hand in the Chiefs' 17-10 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 10. Journeyman Tyler Palko will replace Cassel under center tonight against the New England Patriots, with 2011 fifth-round pick Ricky Stanzi the No. 2 quarterback.

Taking Cassel's place on the 53-man roster will be practice squad wide receiver Jeremy Horne, who has appeared in six games over the last two seasons, making two tackles on special teams.

As I noted late last week, Horne had his practice squad salary increased recently.
